Position Summary:

The Clinical Informatics Specialist will identify clinical practice workflow, process issues and concerns, and provides leadership and guidance to define system and process requirements that will optimize system performance and technology utilization by clinical practitioners. The goal of the position is supporting and advising on information systems, applications and technologies that are as transparent as possible to the clinical practitioner.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Support physicians, clinicians, health care workers, affiliates and partners by providing continuous support, troubleshooting and identifying opportunities for clinical information system improvements.
  • Promotes future and present system functionality by designing, building and testing the clinical information systems.
  • Pro-actively engage with IT and business stakeholders to identify, document and prioritize technical requirements and collaboratively define IT solutions addressing requirements and action plans.
  • Provides expertise in clinician use of data, best practices in measurement, user-centered design and quantitative program evaluation to ensure the effectiveness and accuracy of clinical decision support and information supplied by the department to business customers.
  • Presents results of studies in written reports and oral presentations to management and other staff.
  • Prepares articles co-authored with program and clinical staff for healthcare administration and other appropriate journals
  • Coordinate the successful implementation of IT solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 7 years of experience in a position with similar primary duties and a minimum of 5 years' experience in applied health care and/or nursing research required.
  • Experience with research design, quantitative methods, project management and data extraction, manipulation, validation and analysis or equivalent coursework required.
  • Experience publishing articles in conjunction with clinical/nursing staff preferred. Knowledge of home care and community-based service delivery preferred.
  • Strong information theory, data application, informatics and analytical skills required, experience analyzing clinical medical record data preferred.
  • Proficient in evaluation and analysis of clinical, nursing and health services programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with standard business applications, including Microsoft Office required. Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint as well as SharePoint.
  • Demonstrated strong written and presentation skills required.
  • Experience with data manipulation and statistical software (e.g. SAS, Stata, SQL, R) preferred.
  • Experience with supporting clinician use of an EHR system, with expertise in hospital or ambulatory clinical computer applications (as appropriate for role).
  • Education or training experience using principles of adult learning in clinical environments.
  • Familiarity with remote desktop applications and help desk software (Freshdesk, Zendesk).
  • Experience with project management, change management and process improvement leadership.
  • Experience in healthcare quality initiatives and regulatory organizations (e.g. The Joint Commission, CMS, state departments of health). Knowledge of professional standards as reflected in the appropriate practice act of the state where licensed.
  • Demonstrated competency in assessment, analysis and redesign of clinical workflows, training curricula, change processes and end user engagement.
  • Demonstrated ability to acquire knowledge to function at a proficient level using Epic Enterprise Suite EHR and other applications.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of adult learning theory; presentation development; use of relevant software applications; and instructional content expertise.
  • Employee may be required to work on-call, after hours and variable shifts and weekends.

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Healthcare Administration, Business, or other related concentration.
  • Informatics certifications or credentialing is preferred.
